As we head into the colder months, we should keep in mind how parched our skin can become. Not that this subject doesn’t deserve attention all 365 days of the year, but extra care should be taken during the autumn and winter months. Moisturizing is the key. It feels so good to moisturize! Granted, there is so much more to a healthy skin regimen, including adding tons of water to your daily diet, but you should definitely include a good moisturizer. If nothing else, moisturize!
I have come to realize that moisturizers do not need to be expensive to be good. For example, I have dropped some serious dollars to try Crème de La Mer. Their smallest jar costing a whopping $85.00 for 0.5oz. Don’t even ask what their largest 3 oz jar costs…smh. Celebrities swear by this product. The ladies at the counter worship to the La Mer God and sing praises of its “fountain of youth” wonders and possibilities. Don’t get me wrong the product is decent, but honestly speaking, I can find much better results with a nice jar of Pond’s Dry Skin Cream.
Speaking of Pond’s, the brand has been around since the 1800’s. My grandmother, in her 82 years of glory, swears by it, as does my mother. According to them, this is what the starlets of their time wore. Can I mention the price????? This product can range anywhere from $4.99 to $7.00 for a 6.5 oz jar. Who can pass on that goodness? The product itself feels light and creamy and applies the same. You don’t have that overall greasy, heavy feel you get with some products. It does have a light perfume smell but not overpowering and dissolves with application.
I only mention Pond’s because it is what I know, what I use and what works for me. There are tons of great moisturizers on the market that are inexpensive and you don’t have to break bank for. Test a few out. Go on a haul when Target or Walgreens are offering sales. Some good brands to look for are Nivea, Cetaphil, Aveeno, and Vichy just to name a few. Once you have found the one you absolutely LOVE… use the hell out of it! Use it with your morning ritual, use it before you go to bed, use it before you beat your face for an event, and use it to stay home with a glass of wine, popcorn and your remote. You’ll see the difference it makes instantly.
Moisturizing isn’t a female thing, it is an EVERYONE thing. It is not only meant for the face, your whole body can benefit from it. You may find a product that is good for your face and not your entire body. You may find one that works for both. The benefits of moisturizing are extensive. Not only does it help to hydrate your skin, it can add important nutrients to your skin. It promotes a healthy glow, prevents flaking (yuck) and can create a protective barrier for your skin. It also has age-defying qualities.
Some of us cute, older gals have the good fortune to still get carded at the bar (very flattering). Yes, good genes certainly contribute (thanks mom and dad). Maybe it’s the additional water intake recently added to the diet. Could be, but the real hard work comes from the amount of tender, love and care given to the largest organ. So treat your skin with kindness and give it some attention. “Love the skin you’re in” like the commercial says.
